There is no doubt that Manuel Pellegrini has been one of the busiest Premier League managers during the summer transfer window, but the West Ham chief has also spent time running the rule over his own squad as well as prospective targets.

With seven new signings at the London Stadium, the Chilean boss has plenty to work on before the new season gets underway, which includes deciding on just who will be part of the first team squad, and who will be deemed surplus to requirements.

Sky Sports have reported that Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang are two first team stars up for sale this summer, despite having been regulars in and around the senior squad, but if the broadcaster’s latest report is true, then the future of the pair may well be dead in the water with the Irons.

Sky state on their website that the Hammers have surprisingly turned down offers for 22-year-old midfielder Josh Cullen after he impressed Pellegrini during their pre-season preparations, and despite just five appearances last season he is in line for more game time in the upcoming campaign.

Many of the London Stadium faithful would have expected Cullen to be on his way out this summer, either on loan or even permanently, so to hear he is set to stay is a real surprise – but it does not bode well for those fighting for their futures.

To have been leapfrogged by the former Bolton loanee signals that Pellegrini’s plans do not include the likes of midfield pair Kouyate or Obiang, and as much as they might fight for their place at the club, it is looking bleak for the duo.
