Everton have been in contact with Real Sociedad over a potential transfer swoop for former Manchester United attacker Adnan Januzaj this summer, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

The Belgian newspaper claim in a small article in Wednesday’s print edition (18/07) that the Toffees have been in touch with the La Liga outfit after his impressive displays at this summer’s World Cup, where he helped Belgium finish in third place.

The winger, who scored his first goal for his country in the group stage win over England, has 75 Premier League appearances under his belt and is said to know the area around Everton well, having lived there during his time at Old Trafford.

Good move for Everton?

Januzaj was tipped as one of the brightest young talents in England but his career seems to have taken a different path to what most would have expected.

Stints at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland saw him regress, rather than flourish into a bright forward, and he is now a consistent, if unremarkable, figure at Sociedad.

Still, he did catch the eye in the World Cup and maybe Everton feel he can replicate his performances on the international stage back in England’s top flight.

It would be a risky move, but one which could help bring a cutting edge to the Toffee’s attacking line.

Likely to happen?

It seems as though talks are at the preliminary stage and that it is more an enquiry rather than full on negotiations.

Everton will want to find out the sort of price Sociedad are asking for, as well as the player’s own contract demands, before pushing on.

It seems a strange move to make, and the Toffees will likely end up looking at more proven talents before deciding on whether to swoop for the Belgian.
