Barcelona have enquired about the availability of West Ham’s exciting young midfielder Domingos Quina, according to Sky Sports.

The report states that Barcelona’s scouts have been monitoring the 18-year-old, who scored a memorable goal for Portugal’s u-19s against Italy in the European Championships last week.

Quina is in the final year of his contract, and as a result West Ham are willing to listen to offers of around £600,000 for the youngster.

German sides Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen have already been credited with an interest in the teenager, but if the Spanish champion’s interest is concrete then it would likely spell the end of their pursuit of the player.

Good move for West Ham?

Given that the player is in the last year of his current contract it could make sense for the Hammers to be looking to cash in on him. If they have no interest in extending his deal, or if the player himself wants to leave the club, then it’s best for all parties if he were to move on. For Quina himself, Barcelona are surely an ideal destination. Even if he was not involved in the first team set-up initially, he would benefit hugely from working under the outstanding coaches at La Masia, as well as playing regular football for Barcelona B. Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen are fine destinations too, with young English players flourishing in Germany recently, but Barca’s interest would surely be too hard to ignore. However, it has to be asked, if Barcelona are interested, why do West Ham want to get rid? Surely it’s a big mistake?

Likely to happen?

That’s entirely dependent on Barcelona. £600,000 is spare change for them and at that price it’s probably worth taking a risk on the 18-year-old. If it doesn’t work out then it doesn’t really matter, it’s not as if he would’ve cost them millions.
