The new owners at Aston Villa are set to hold imminent talks with manager Steve Bruce as they plot the club’s future, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Midlands based newspaper claim on their website that having taken charge of the Villans in the midst of their financial crisis, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are to meet with Bruce over the coming days to discuss his place at the club and their plans going forward.

The pair agreed a deal with former owner Dr Tony Xia to take control at Villa Park, and they will reportedly reveal if Bruce will continue as his role as manager during the upcoming discussions this week.

Opinion

Bruce must know that his future is up in the air right now, and the new team in charge at the top have a tough decision as to whether they will keep him on or bring their own man in. On one hand, Bruce has the experience and know how of both management and the Championship, not to mention a decent record of earning promotion from the division. On the other hand, he failed to make the most of an expensively assembled squad consisting of plenty of talent, and maybe after the financial issues, which Bruce contributed to, it is time for a breath of fresh air in the dugout. It all depends on what Sawiris and Edens have planned, which would have been discussed before they agreed to take over, and Bruce is now on the brink of finding out whether he will stay in charge. He might be forced to negotiate his position as well, and it could end up a mutual agreement that he leaves. Only time will tell.
