Tottenham to be embarrassed by transfer plans

There is no doubt that the work that Tottenham pair Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy have done over the last couple of years has been crucial into establishing the club into the top four regulars they are now – but the team requires constant attention to remain in contention.

In comparison to the rest of the top six in the Premier League, Spurs have been pretty frugal in their spending, only choosing to break the bank when necessary – as was the case with the capture of Colombia defender Davinson Sanchez last summer.

This summer has been no different, with the Lilywhites yet to bring in any sort of reinforcements, sticking to their tactics of leaving their business late.

Now, ESPN are claiming that the reason behind the delay over Tottenham’s business is that Pochettino and Levy are actually waiting for their top six rivals to conduct their own transfers in order to avoid becoming embroiled in a battle for recruits – a tactic which could leave the chairman embarrassed.

North London rivals Arsenal have wasted no time in strengthening under Unai Emery, Liverpool have new arrivals with the likes of Fabinho and Naby Keita, the two Manchester clubs have been spending and Chelsea, with Maurizio Sarri in charge, have also been busy – while Spurs are being left behind.

It is the sort of transfer practice employed by clubs who consider themselves inferior – and it is just the wrong way for Spurs to be thinking about themselves if they want to be competitive.

Tottenham could well find themselves fighting for the scraps of the transfer window if they stick to their plans – and Levy may be overtaken by the rest of the top six if he sticks to his guns.
