Newcastle United have not yet tabled a bid for Uruguay midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to reliable journalist Lee Ryder.

The Newcastle Chronicle journalist has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Magpies are yet to make a concrete offer for the 22-year-old, who played for his country at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Newcastle completed the signing of defender Fabian Schraf from Deortivo la Coruna and are likely to bring in Yoshinori Muto from Mainz in the forthcoming days.

The Uruguayan international bagged four goals and one assist in 24 games in the Primera Division last season, netting seven goals and providing ten in the previous campaign.

Good move for Newcastle?

Newcastle are fresh in the midfield section of their squad and fans would relish another South American to succeed and follow in the steps of former South Americans such as Nobby Solano and Tino Asprilla.

However, Nandez is very young and there is not enough evidence to show that he is capable of performing in the Premier League.

The English top flight is completely different to the South American leagues and his small height could have a negative factor on his game.

Likely to happen?

Newcastle will not want to pay a large sum of money for a player they are not fully aware of and it could be too much of a gamble.

The Magpies remain keen on signing Salomon Rondon and will require transfer funds if they were to sign the West Brom forward.

Rafael Benitez is pushing hard to get new players through the doors but it would be a surprise if Nandez was to be one of them.
