Tottenham are leading the charge to sign Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer having already opened talks over a potential move, according to France Football.

The reputable French publication claim on their website that there are a number of clubs chasing the 25-year-old after impressing on loan in La Liga last season, which saw his loan move from Inter Milan turned into a permanent one this summer.

Of the clubs, Tottenham are named as the front runners, and that the Lilywhites have entered discussions with the five cap France international enforcer, who scored four goals and chipped in with four assists over 36 appearances last season.

Good move for Tottenham?

Without a shadow of a doubt.

Kondogbia has everything that Spurs need heading into the new campaign, and with the future of Mousa Dembele in doubt, that gap would be filled by a quality replacement.

Energetic, powerful and able to attack or defend, Kondogbia is as well rounded a midfielder as Mauricio Pochettino could hope for, and he would be a great addition to the Spurs midfield.

He might have slipped in terms of form after being so highly rated early in his career, but having rediscovered himself in Spain, it is now time for him to dazzle in England.

Likely to happen?

Tottenham may well have entered into discussions but that does not mean that a move is going to be forthcoming.

There are seemingly plenty of suitors for the French enforcer and while Spurs might be leading them for now, it will not be long until discussions between other clubs start.

If Pochettino wants him now, he will have to work fast and get a deal over the line.
