Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira will have talks with his agent before the club’s final US tour match with Real Madrid on Wednesday, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The newspaper reports that the 22-year-old is keen to stay at Old Trafford for the forthcoming season, having spent the past two years away from the club on loan at Granada and Valencia.

It is said that Marcelino’s side were keen to keep the Brazilian at the Mestalla this season, but that Pereira chose to remain in Manchester in order to convince Jose Mourinho of his worth.

He has gone on to be a rare bright spark in a miserable pre season for the Red Devils, playing the full 90 minutes in three of United’s four pre season games thus far.

OPINION

Pereira’s summers at Old Trafford have fallen into a familiar pattern of late, with the midfielder eager to impress in pre season only to be shipped out on loan in late August. This year, however, feels different. The Brazilian has impressed playing out of position for Mourinho over the past few weeks, with the manager now said to value his versatility and technical ability. With so many United players out injured or still recovering from their World Cup excursions, Pereira appears to have grasped his opportunity to show the manager what he can do. Competition for places will be fierce at Old Trafford this season, particularly after the big money arrival of midfielder Fred, but after a fine season on loan at Valencia the 22-year-old appears better placed than ever to finally fulfil his potential. The challenge will be for the youngster to carry his pre season form into competitive fixtures, with United’s Premeir League opener against Leicester on 10 August looming large.
