Nottingham Forest winger Barrie McKay is undergoing a medical with Swansea City ahead of a move to the Welsh side, according to the Mail.

The newspaper reports that the 23-year-old is closing in on a £500,000 switch to the Liberty Stadium, having seen a potential move to Greek side Olympiacos fall through.

The Scotsman is seen as an ideal replacement for Andre Ayew, who swapped Wales for Turkey when he signed for Fenerbahce last week.

McKay, who usually operates on the left side of the pitch, made 26 appearances for Forest last season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.

Good move for Forest?

The sheer amount of speculation linking McKay with a move away from the City Ground this summer indicates that he is not in manager Aitor Karanka’s plans ahead of the new season. He’s been a decent player for the club but has never really set the world alight since his move south of the border. Swansea appear to see some potential in him though, and he is still young at 23 years of age. However, if the Reds are able to get half a million for a player they no longer want then it’s pretty good business for them. It seems like a win-win all round.

Likely to happen?

With the Scotland international undergoing a medical it appears that this deal is very close. Provided nothing goes wrong fitness wise, then there’s precious little to stop this transfer getting over the line. It seems a fee has been agreed, so expect McKay to be wearing a Swansea shirt before too long.
