Tottenham’s potential sale of Danny Rose this summer is hanging in the balance because of the early transfer window deadline, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim the likes of Spurs and Chelsea “regret” agreeing to bring forward the closure of the Premier League window to 9 August, two days before the start of the new season.

The Mail report clubs now recognise major deals might not be finalised in time due to the World Cup and the sky-high prices being quoted, which reduces the time to negotiate more realistic fees.

It is said that the early deadline could reduce Tottenham’s chances of selling England left-back Danny Rose, as chairman Daniel Levy aims to secure a £40million fee for the player.

OPINION

Those Premier League chairman who thought they were doing the right thing by bring forward the transfer window deadline by three weeks are not looking too smart now. It gives the edge to overseas clubs, who can seal deals up until the traditional 31 August cut-off and can wait until after 9 August in the hope of securing a bargain, when selling to the Continent represents the only option. Could Rose end up going abroad instead? That is certainly a possibility. He slipped down the pecking order at Spurs last season after struggling to recover from the knee injury that sidelined him for most of 2017. Even now, Rose looks a shadow of the dynamic player who looked the best left-back in Europe for a year or so before the injury. Manchester United were once linked with a £50million swoop for the player. There is no chance of that now, barring a series of stunning World Cup performances by Rose for England in the next week-and-a-half.
