Matteo Darmian is being offered a temporary escape from Manchester United, with Inter Milan set to offer him a return to Italy, according to Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian heavyweights are set to offer United a loan deal for the 28-year-old, who has struggled for his best form at Old Trafford since arriving from Torino in 2015.

It is understood that Darmian’s agent wants Man United to accept Inter’s conditions for him to leave the Premier League this summer, with what would be a loan with an option to make the deal permanent.

Good move for United?

For whatever reason it simply hasn’t worked out for Darmian in Manchester. The Italian is clearly a talented player, but he just hasn’t produced consistently good football since joining from Torino. At this point, a return to his homeland is probably needed for him to find his feet again. While United would likely prefer an immediate sale this summer, the loan with an option to buy isn’t too hard to stomach. If Darmian goes to Inter and impresses then they’ll purchase him permanently and everybody will be happy. It’s time for United to cut ties and this move makes sense for everyone involved.

Likely to happen?

Jose Mourinho has never seemed to fancy Darmian so it comes as no surprise that he’s being linked with a move away. United’s purchase of right back Diogo Dalot earlier this summer pushed the 28-year-old even further down the pecking order. This deal seems pretty likely.
