A section of Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that the club is interested in signing Middlesbrough forward Patrick Bamford this summer.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has claimed that the Whites have switched focus to Bamford, 24, after failing to meet the wage demands of Derby’s Matej Vydra, who was seeking a deal worth over £50,000-a-week.

Bamford scored 13 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions for Boro last season, including a hat-trick against Leeds in March at The Riverside.

And some Leeds fans are loving the fact that their club has been linked with signing the former Chelsea forward, with one saying that the Yorkshire giants need to “get it done”.

OPINION

It’s odd that these fans would like to see Leeds sign Bamford this summer. He is nowhere near as good as Vydra and proved last season that he cannot score goals on a consistent basis. Out of his 11 Championship goals, nine of them came in a seven-game spell. Outside of that, he scored just two goals in 30 appearances. That is nowhere near good enough and it was Leeds’ shockingly bad performance at Middlesbrough in March that boosted his goalscoring numbers. Bamford has never been an out-and-out centre-forward either. It would be a major downgrade from past targets if Marcelo Bielsa signed the former England Under-21 international.
