Former England international goalkeeper Rob Green is set to undergo a medical at Premier League giants Chelsea today (Wednesday, 25 July) as he closes in on a free transfer, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster claim on their official Twitter account that the 38-year-old, who saw his contract with Huddersfield come to an end at the beginning of this summer, is set for a bargain move to Stamford Bridge as the Blues plot for the upcoming season under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

The 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) shot stopper has 267 Premier League appearances under his belt, but did not make a single appearance for the Terriers last season as he was kept as back up.
Opinion
The award for most bizarre transfer story of the summer should be awarded here and now. No one, not even Green himself, could have predicted he would be making a move to Stamford Bridge after leaving Huddersfield, as it looked like his football career may well be coming to an end. With the Blues obviously looking for back up, they may feel that Green’s experience in the division is enough to warrant a short term deal, while he helps the young talents coming through the system in their own development. It is not a bad move by any means, just an unexpected one, and if Green can end his playing time with a couple of matches for the Blues, it would be a fitting send off to one of the longest serving players in England’s divisions. Chelsea fans best hope he is not playing too much though, for while he is a competent keeper, he still is prone to an error or two.
