Chelsea midfielder Kasey Palmer is set to join Blackburn Rovers on loan early next week, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their website that the 21-year-old will join Rovers on a temporary deal until the end of the year.

The report reveals that Derby were favourites for Palmer, where he spent time on loan last season, but Tony Mowbray’s side are set to beat them to his signature.

The attacking midfielder made 15 Championship appearances on loan at Pride Park last season scoring two goals and providing a single assist.

OPINION

Palmer is a talented midfielder who, thanks to his loan spell with Derby last year, cemented his reputation as being a quality Championship player. For Blackburn to secure his signing ahead of the likes of Derby is a massive coup and Mowbray will be really happy to have got his hands on such a skilled player. In Chelsea’s point of view, this is yet another loan to determine whether or not Palmer will eventually make the grade at Stamford Bridge, he’s shown glimpses of his potential but at 21-years-old, time is running out to convince the Blues officials that he has what it takes to play regular football at the highest level. This move to Rovers could be a make or break moment in his career, as the London club will keep a very close eye on his progress over the next six months. Mowbray’s style of football should be an advantage for the midfielder.
