Arsenal target Lucas Torreira has revealed that he had postponed a move to the Emirates while Uruguay were competing at the World Cup.

The Daily Mail reported that Arsenal had negotiated a deal with Sampdoria for the £25million transfer, with the announcement following Uruguay’s exit.

Now the 22-year-old’s duties with Uruguay are over following defeat to France on Friday, he has stated that everything will become clear very soon, suggesting that a move to the Emirates could be right around the corner.

“Yes, we could have done things differently, but I did not want to think about other things,” was Torreira’s response when asked if he had postponed his Gunners transfer, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“The World Cup is important and being part of this squad meant a lot to me. But now I have more time my future will be very clear.”

OPINION

Prepare yourselves Gunners fans, as this one does not seem far away at all. It was always going to be the case that the transfer would have to wait until after the World Cup was over for Uruguay. Torreira was a standout performer for his Southern American side in Russia, and showed why Unai Emery is so keen to bring him to the Emirates. Much in the style of Jack Wilshere, Torreira plays with grace on the ball, and possesses an extensive range of passing abilities; and as is so often the case with Southern American players, Torreira is ultra-competitive, and will run his socks off for any ball. It is encouraging that Arsenal are securing the player at such a young age, a given due time and worthy experience the Uruguayan could develop into a World Class talent. His comments following the untimely eliminating from the World Cup all but confirm that he will be revealing his new club soon, and Arsenal are widely understood as to being the team in question. This is a nice piece of business, and Torreira is a worthy replacement for the departed Wilshere. Turn your Twitter notifications on Gunners fans.
