OPINION:

New Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa may just have pulled off a blinder in the transfer market following confirmation on Twitter that Tyler Denton has left the club on a season-long loan deal to join Peterborough United.

And that’s because the relationship the Whites will have built up through their negotiations with the Posh board could ultimately aid the Yorkshire club in their attempts to land reported £6.5million target Jack Marriott (source: The Sun).

The 23-year-old hitman tore apart League One last season, scoring with astonishing regularity and is the player who can help Leeds in their quest to retain their status as a top-flight side by firing them back into the Premier League next season.

Bielsa’s side have been linked with a move for a striker for some time and with deals for both Matej Vydra (source: The Telegraph) and Abel Hernandez (source: Yorkshire Evening Post) no closer, the transfer of Denton to the Posh could help to speed up matters on the transfer front.

Marriott had a better than one in two strike rate last season, notching up 33 goals in total from 55 appearances for Peterborough while Kemar Roofe was Leeds’ leading marksman with 14 and the now departed Pierre-Michel Lasogga was second with ten to his name.

The forward line was the one position in the team under Thomas Christiansen and then Paul Heckingbottom which was a continual source of frustration in the previous campaign but with the Peterborough hitman in the ranks that would be quickly rectified.

There is a lot of competition for the forward’s signature but Denton’s exit to Peterborough on Friday could prove to be a Bielsa masterstroke if Leeds finally land their man.
