Manuel Pellegrini wants to add another attacking midfielder to the West Ham ranks as the club finalise the signing of Jack Wilshere, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the England international has completed and passed a Hammers medical and officials are putting the finishing touches to a deal that is set to be announced by Tuesday.

The Sun report that manager Pellegrini wants to swell the team’s squad further by bringing in another midfield creative force to play alongside Wilshere next season.

Good move for West Ham?

The capture of Wilshere on a free transfer is a very good one. Fit and firing, he would be worth £30million, at least, given that he has nearly a decade worth of Arsenal first-team experience under his belt, 34 England caps and is still only 26. Wilshere has not lived up to his enormous potential as a teen, but he is still a mighty fine player and demonstrated for the Gunners in January and February he can dominate matches at Premier League and European level. Wilshere would also be an upgrade on the current central midfielders on West Ham’s books, including skipper Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang.

Likely to happen?

It’s not done until the signatures are inked on the contracts and the player has been formally registered with the Premier League, but it would amount as a monumental surprise if Wilshere was not unveiled in the next 72 hours. The final hurdle to doing a deal – stringent medical examinations – has been overcome and it is only now a matter of time.
