Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw has picked up an injury that looks set to be a long-term blow for Leeds United, according to a reliable journalist.

Alan Nixon, from the Sun, made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning.

With the start of the Championship now less than a week away, this would be a big setback to Leeds and their new manager Marcelo Bielsa.

This would be a huge blow for Leeds. Forshaw was one of the shining lights for Leeds last season, as most other first-team players disappointed under Paul Heckingbottom. The 26-year-old midfielder joined in January from Middlesbrough and was already being talked about as a potential future captain. He suffered with an injury last season that kept him out of games towards the end of the campaign, but this sounds like something new and potentially something serious. Forshaw had Premier league experience with both Middlesbrough and Everton, and would have been a key part of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad for next season. It’s still not been confirmed, but this comes on the back of a fan saying that he’d seen him with a cast on his leg and Nixon is very solid with this sort of information. This will be a real body blow to Leeds fans after the excitement of signing Barry Douglas from Wolves on Saturday. Depending on how serious the injury is, there’s still time for Leeds to bring in reinforcements, but it won’t be easy so close to the end of the window, and money is an issue. Forshaw cost £4.5million last January and this season was seen as the time that he would come into his own in a Leeds shirt.
