Celtic icon Sutton claims Rangers are interested in Motherwell star Cadden

Rangers are in hot pursuit of Motherwell ace Chris Cadden, according to Celtic icon Chris Sutton.

The former Hoops striker claimed in BT Sport’s live coverage of Motherwell’s win against Clyde on Saturday afternoon that his sources have told him the Light Blues have a strong interest in the two-times Scotland international.

“Talking about Chris Cadden, my sources tell me that Rangers are having a good look at him,” Sutton said during the live match commentary.

The Daily Record reported earlier this summer that Cadden, 21, is valued at £1million by Motherwell, with Wigan and Millwall interested in signing him.

Good move for Rangers?

Cadden was very impressive for Motherwell last season, scoring four goals and supplying nine assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

He is extremely versatile, and can play on the right-wing or at right-back, while he has also shown that he has the ability to play in a central midfield role or as an attacking midfielder.

£1million would be a lot of money for the Gers to strengthen a position that does not really need adding to, but if they can do it then Steven Gerrard should definitely try to whittle away at Stephen Robinson’s asking price.

At the moment though, the Gers need to focus on a centre-forward and a centre-back.

Likely to happen?

Sutton will not reveal who his source is, but it’s a transfer link that has appeared in the past and could be revived this summer.

However Rangers are not likely to meet Motherwell’s asking price for a player who they really do not need that much, so it is hard to see this happening.
