Tottenham have suffered a big blow to land Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, with the Villa owners blocking the Englishman’s potential exit, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claimed on their website that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was eager to decrease the 22-year-old’s sale price due to the Villains’ financial problems.

However, the arrival of billionaire owners Nassef Sawaris and Wes Edens has resulted in the duo blocking a potential sale of Grealish to North London.

The former England U21 international earned positive reviews last season as he was a key part of helping Villa reach the play-off final before losing to Fulham at Wembley Stadium.

OPINION

This will be a disappointing outcome for Spurs, who had been linked with the rising star for a while and have put a lot of work into convincing Grealish to commit a future at the new White Hart Lane. This has backfired on Levy, who should have acted quicker. Playing in the Premier League should be a main priority for a player who, when at his best, is too good to be competing in the second tier. The 22-year-old has been involved with Villa since the age of six and has a strong connection with the club. With the backing of mega-rich owners, Villa will be strong favourites to return to the top flight after relegation in 2017 and may be a prime reason for Grealish remaining with his boyhood club for another season. The Villa owners will rebuild Villa back into a strong club and that will mean keeping ahold of their best players.
