Lyon have contacted the representatives of Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele as they aim to sign the Belgium international this summer, according to Buzz Sport.

The French news outlet has claimed that the Ligue 1 club are looking to sign Dembele, 31, in a deal that would be worth over £13.4million, with the former Fulham ace is now in the final year of his Spurs contract.

It is understood that Lyon are in talks with Dembele’s entourage, however no offer has been made as of yet.

Statistics website Spotrac reports that he earns £55,000-a-week on his deal at Tottenham.

Good move for Tottenham?

No way. Dembele was crucial to the Spurs first team last season and was arguably one of Mauricio Pochettino’s best players.

The Belgian maestro made 39 appearances across all competitions as Spurs finished third in the Premier League, but as he is in the final year of his contact, it could make sense to cash in on him now rather than letting him leave for free next year.

In an ideal scenario, Daniel Levy and Pochettino would get Dembele to sign a new contract, but at the moment that does not look likely with the amount of speculation surrounding his future in North London.

Likely to happen?

If Dembele was to move anywhere, many would guess that the Spurs ace would head to China over anywhere else.

Moving to Lyon would be somewhat of a backward step, and they may not be able to offer him better wages than what he is already on.

At least a move to China would see him earn a huge deal.

It’s hard to see a move to Lyon happening, but there is still a chance.
