Thierry Henry has agreed on verbal terms to become the new Aston Villa manager and take the club back into the Premier League, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claims on their website that the 40-year-old Arsenal and France legend is set to take over from current manager Steve Bruce as the club look to end their two-year absence from the top flight.

Henry, who was part of the Belgium coaching staff that reached the World Cup semi-finals this summer, looks set to take up his first managerial role after expressing interest of becoming a full-time manager.

Aston Villa missed out on promotion last season after losing to Fulham in the Championship play-off final.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Despite having a strong manager already in Steve Bruce, the arrival of Thierry Henry would certainly excite many Villa fans with his strong status as a Premier League legend.

Bruce remains in charge of the Championship side but after the arrival of new Egyptian owners, Henry could be given a strong chance to become a first-team manager for the first time.

Whether Henry can replicate his playing career into management is a different matter and the gamble could backfire with little experience to his name.

Bruce has a huge wealth of managerial experience and is more than capable of guiding Villa back to the Premier League.

Likely to happen?

With a strong history, Aston Villa would be a great club for Henry to begin his managerial debut with and could be major for the club in their bid to begin a new path after what has been a difficult season.

A club who have struggled to get back into the Premier League, Villa have the potential to return to the top flight.

Former Premier League legends, such as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, have started at Rangers and Derby respectively and Villa are a similar club in terms of where they are. Henry would get time and would boost the mood of both the players and fans at the club.
