Free agent Wes Hoolahan is the most likely player to be Leeds United’s next summer signing, according to Football Whispers.

The football news site claims that the 36-year-old pass master is firmly in the running to head to Elland Road after his contract at Norwich expired at the end of last season.

The 43-times Republic of Ireland international is extremely experienced, with over 100 Premier League appearances to his name from his time at Carrow Road, as well as over 200 Championship appearances.

Football Whispers rates the likelihood of transfer rumours coming true after gathering information from across the world, and they rate the chances of Hoolahan being Leeds’ next addition at 3.7 out of 5.

OPINION

Leeds really do not need any central midfielders adding to the squad at the moment and if anything, Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta should be looking to thin the herd in that particular area of the squad. However if the Whites were to sign Hoolahan, he would be a very clever addition. The Irish midfielder has great passing ability and has supplied a lot of assists during his career. The 36-year-old does not shy away from getting among the goals as well, but his age and the lack of need for a player in his position would suggest that this deal is a non-starter. The Irish Sun has previously reported that Wigan have offered Hoolahan the chance to stay in the Championship, and if newly-promoted teams are looking into signing the playmaker, then maybe Leeds should avoid him. Bielsa and Orta should be prioritising moves for one or two new centre-forwards and centre-backs at the moment.
