Everton are interested in signing FC Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer and will hold talks with his representatives next week about a potential deal, according to SPORT.

The Spanish publication claims that Everton have enquired about the Spanish forward’s availability, as well as Colombian defender Yerry Mina, “in the last hours”.

The report reveals that the Catalan club is looking for a fee of around £26.5million for the former Valencia striker, who is well down the pecking order at Camp Nou.

Despite only making 24 appearances for Barcelona last season, the 24-year-old managed to score seven goals and provide four assists in all competitions. His best goalscoring season was in 2015/16, when he scored 13 goals in 34 La Liga games for Valencia (TransferMarkt).

Good move for Everton?

Absolutely.

If Everton decide to act on their interest and manage to complete this signing, it would be a real coup.

The 24-year-old is one of Spain’s most lethal finishers but he hasn’t had regular football for the last two seasons and desperately needs consistent first-team chances in order to get his career back on track.

The Toffees have been missing a goalscorer since the departure of Romelu Lukaku, but Alcacer could just be the man to replace finally replace him.

Likely to happen?

Time will tell if this deal gets done but there’s obvious eagerness from both sides to talk about a potential transfer.

The Spaniard has only ever played football in his home country, so a switch to England could be quite a shock, it could be a potential stumbling block.

If any Spanish side were interested, he may favour staying in La Liga.

Despite this, Marco Silva should do everything he can to get this deal done.
