Leeds United must finally make a real move in the transfer market and hijack Derby County’s reported move for Brentford winger Florian Jozefzoon – but they’ll need to move fast.

Leeds United fans had their hopes raised and then dashed in the space of a few hours on Wednesday after Brentford confirmed that they had accepted a bid for Jozefzoon, but didn’t say who it was from.

It’s a slightly odd way for a transfer to pan out, with fans left to speculate about who the mystery club might be.

The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon got Leeds fans’ hopes up when he announced that Elland Road was the most likely destination. But then Sky Sports followed up by saying that it was Derby County.

They claimed that other clubs had made offers but they didn’t meet their valuation.

Nixon went on to say that it looked like someone was trying to start an auction for the player and followed this up by saying it would be for the wages, after a fan said Brentford had already accepted an offer.

Either way, Brentford confirmed that personal terms hadn’t been agreed or a medical scheduled, and that opens the door for Victor Orta to steal in and put one on Derby.

Derby have already landed Harry Wilson from Liverpool and he was also a player that Leeds had been linked with.

They can’t afford to sit back now and let Derby hoover up another talented attacker, while they’re left with pretty much the same squad that failed in the Championship last season.

Yes, new manager Marcelo Bielsa might be able to get more out of the players, but they need new attacking blood and they’ve got money to spend.

So far this summer they’ve brought in two Chelsea players on loan and while an out-and-out striker is a priority, Jozefzoon would add to the squad.

This one should progress fairly rapidly and Leeds fans will be desperately hoping this isn’t going to be the case of another one that gets away.
