Liverpool have accepted a £2.4million offer from Rosenborg for their 21-year-old midfielder Pedro Chirivella, according to a reliable journalist.

James Pearce of the Echo claimed that the fee could rise to a potential £3.5million.

He made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Sunday afternoon.

Neil Jones from Goal also reported that the offer had been accepted and said the player was due to travel to Rosenborg to complete his move this week. He also claimed Liverpool will “insist on a buy-back option”.

Good move for Liverpool?

Chirivella has been at Liverpool for five years, since his £2million move from Valencia. He’s had two loan spells at Go Ahead Eagles and Willem II but it looks like he’s run out of time to make his mark at Anfield. He did make five senior appearances for the club but hasn’t featured since 2016 and if Liverpool can balance the books on the player, they’ll be satisfied. If they get a buy-back clause inserted into the deal then it’s a win-win for Liverpool, for a player who won’t feature in Jurgen Klopp’s plans this season. This is potentially a good move for Chirivella too, who needs the opportunity to play first-team football. Rosenborg could still make the group stage of this season’s Champions League too if they can get past Celtic in their two-legged qualifier.

Likely to happen?

With the fee agreed and the player set to jet out next week, it seems this one is a formality and Chirivella will become a Rosenborg player before next weekend. He could be a really good buy for the Norwegian side and they’ll be keen to get it wrapped up as soon as possible. Meanwhile, this will help Liverpool recoup some money after a huge outlay over the summer.
