Leeds United have received a boost in their pursuit of Derby Country striker Matej Vydra, according to The Telegraph.

The English outlet report that the Czech Republic forward has been excluded from The Ram’s pre-season training camp in Tenerife as negotiations continue between the two clubs.

The also report claims that Leeds want Vyrda to be their marquee summer signing for new boss Marcelo Bielsa, as the £11million move draws ever closer.

It is understood that the only details holding up the deal are the final fee and the payment schedule, with 26-year-old training on his own at the Derby training ground until an agreement is reached.

Good move for Leeds United?

This would be a great signing for Marcelo Bielsa. Matej Vyrda is one of the deadliest strikers in the division and is capable of potentially leading the Yorkshire giants to Premier League promotion, as he’s already done with Watford previously. In addition to the signing of Lewis Baker, this shows the club is going for quality over quantity this summer. Leeds have been lacking a genuinely top forward for a while, Vydra should help Bielsa achieve his targets this season.

Likely to happen?

This move is looking more and more likely as the days pass. This latest development shows that negotiations are at an advanced stage and there are only a few minor details to be sorted out before the deal is confirmed. The report suggests that there’s still some haggling to be done on both sides, with a final fee and payment schedule, but that should be concluded quickly. This should happen within 48 hours.
