Leeds United are rated at nine out of ten to secure the signing of Derby County striker Matej Vydra this summer but are unlikely to seal deals for other reported targets, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

When probed by a fan asking about three potential signings – Vydra, Abel Hernandez and Joe Bryan – the reporter, who writes for the Sun, claimed on his personal Twitter account that out of 10, Vydra was a nine to make the move to Elland Road, but the other two were both ranked at zero.

Czech international Vydra, who has 20 caps for his country, was in lethal form for the Rams last season, netting 22 goals across all competitions, all but one of those coming in the Championship.

Opinion

There might be some mixed feelings towards Nixon’s update on Leeds’ supposed transfer targets, for while Vydra’s capture seems to be all but done, missing out on Hernandez will come as a big disappointment. The Whites have been linked to the former Hull City man for much of the summer and now he is officially a free agent, there might have been expectations that he would be putting pen to paper. However, it could be that Leeds have switched targets as a result of Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival, and that Vydra, coming off the back of a mightily impressive Championship campaign, is the man chosen to lead the line at Elland Road. It makes sense, with Hernandez having been out of action for much of last season, but there will no doubt be some ambitious fans out there demanding they snap up both. If they offload some more deadwood, then that could be a possibility.
