Image for David Villa raves about potential Leeds signing

Leeds United are reported to be signing Man City winger Jack Harrison on a season-long loan, and he comes with some top-tier recommendations.

Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post broke the news on his Twitter account on Monday morning, and claimed the 21-year-old looks was scheduled for a medical at Elland Road on Monday.

Harrison got himself noticed at New York FC in the MLS, where he played with legends of the game like Andreas Pirlo, David Villa and Frank Lampard.

Journalist George Pitts from Sporting Life posted two quotes about Harrison from Lampard (now Derby County manager) and Villa.

Lampard said he “completely changed things for us” and added that he had “brilliant pace, energy and skill”.

Spain striker David Villa said, “When he has the ball at his feet, you get the sensation something is about to happen – few players give you that feeling.”

OPINION

Wow. High praise indeed for a young player who Man City paid £3.6million for earlier this year. Both Lampard and Villa were effusive about a player they played with in New York, and if he can deliver on these promises, Leeds fans are in for a treat. Harrison will have a point to prove as well, after flopping in his first loan move. He spent the second half of last season at Middlesbrough and only made the pitch four times, for cameos totalling 49 minutes. We’re going to blame old-school manager Tony Pulis for this and give Harrison the benefit of the doubt. Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa reportedly persuaded Pep Guardiola to loan him the player and we’d imagine that would come with the promise of game time. Harrison is an England Under-21 international and will be super-keen to hit the ground running this season, with Guardiola keeping an eye on his progress. Leeds fans will be hoping that Lampard and Villa’s views on the player will be what they’ll be echoing at Elland Road next season. He’s a hugely exciting prospect.
