A number of Aston Villa supporters have taken to social media to voice their delight as the club announce that manager Steve Bruce will be remaining in the dugout for the upcoming campaign.

The Villans revealed the decision to keep the former Hull City and Sunderland boss on for another year via their official website, while the official Twitter account had Bruce pictured with new club chiefs Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens holding the home shirt.

There had been much speculation over whether Bruce would stay in charge after the new pair came in to take over from Dr Tony Xia, with Thierry Henry one name mentioned as a possible replacement.

However, many fans are happy to see Bruce stay, with one supporter claiming the France legend would have been a “gamble”.

This is Futbol has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ tweets:

Opinion

Fans have been waiting all week to hear about whether Bruce would be staying or going this summer and they finally have their answer. Whether it is the right move remains to be seen, but considering his experience and know how of earning promotion from the Championship, the Villa faithful know they are in safe hands. He nearly guided them to the Premier League last season, only for the pot luck scenario of a play off defeat leaving them in the financial lurch they found themselves in. If he can replicate the club’s performances next season, then they should be feeling pretty confident about making it back to the promised land.
