Newcastle United’s managed to comfortably avoid relegation in the 2017/18 season on their return to the top flight and had a very organised defence to thank for that.

However, they were certainly limited when going forward and should be looking to add some extra attacking quality during the summer transfer window.

This summer’s World Cup is a great showcase of some of the best footballers in the game and every major tournament a few unexpected stars raise their levels.

One attacker that has been a standout for underdogs Australia is attacker Mathew Leckie, who has completed 90 minutes in both of their two group matches so far.

The right-winger has really impressed in the defeat to France and the draw against Denmark on Thursday, something that should surely grab the attention of Premier League teams.

He has shown he is a speedy wide man with brilliant technical ability and is also a great crosser of the ball, something that should tick a lot of boxes for Newcastle as they look to find a replacement for loan star Kenedy.

Newcastle should plot a raid to sign Leckie this summer from his club side Hertha Berlin in Germany, where he is a first-team regular.

The 27-year-old looks like he would be a great fit in English football with his pace and directness and Magpies boss Rafael Benitez should put him on his wishlist.

He made 29 appearances across all competitions in the recent season at club level and the Australian managed is goals plus three assists in return.
