Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is reported to have made an approach for Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn and the club’s fans are confessing their excitement on social media.

New Gers manager Gerrard managed the 18-year-old during his previous role as youth team manager at Anfield, and the Daily Mail (Sunday 24 June, back page) has reported that he’s approached his former club about a possible loan deal.

The Welsh attacker has already made first-team appearances for both his parent club and his national team, in what is hoped will be the start of a stellar career.

Woodburn first hit the headlines in 2016 when he became Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer, scoring in an EFL quarter-final win against Leeds aged just 17 years and 45 days, beating Michael Owen’s previously held record.

The youngster’s stock rose even higher when he scored with his very first touch on his debut for the Welsh national team aged 17, producing an outstanding finish from outside the box to secure a 1-0 win against Austria in 2017, becoming the second-youngest goalscorer ever behind Gareth Bale.

However, he made just two senior appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season as his development was curtailed by the signing of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah and the stellar performances of Sadio Mane.

The Scottish giants’ fans have been getting very excited about the wonderkids arrival on Twitter, in the hope he can produce the goods to challenge rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
