Rangers left-back Lee Wallace is set to have showdown talks with the club on Wednesday in a bid to find a resolution to his current suspension.

Wallace, 30, was suspended by the Gers hierarchy after a bust-up with former manager Graeme Murty in the aftermath of the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park.

Kenny Miller was also suspended by the club, however his contract has ended and he has since left Ibrox.

However senior player Wallace has another year remaining on his deal, and the Daily Record report that he is set to have a meeting with the Rangers hierarchy on Wednesday to decide what to do with him.

It is understood that Steven Gerrard could offer Wallace a lifeline – but the new Gers manager must avoid doing that and make get rid of the 30-year-old this summer.

The decision should be obvious for Gerrard.

Not only has Wallace been disruptive and looked to have undermined his superior in Murty, he has also been injured for way too long and it’s not worth keeping hold of someone who will probably return in a poor way after making just seven appearances in all competitions last season.

Declan John is a much better left-back option anyway and Gerrard could easily tempt another left-back to join him at Ibrox if he wants a better back-up option than Andy Halliday.

Myles Beerman has also been handed a new deal so he could be handed more of a senior role next season.

It’s a new dawn for Rangers and they cannot just keep players like Wallace around for sentimental reasons.
