Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald wants to quit the club this summer and has already started to attract attention from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, according to BILD.

The German newspaper claims that Wiedwald, 28, wants to leave Elland Road after failing to win over the fans since signing from Werder Bremen last summer.

It is understood that a decision on his future will be made in the coming days, which could open up a move to Frankfurt.

Good move for Leeds?

Wiedwald’s debut season at Leeds was very poor and the club should be looking to offload him this summer.

Marcelo Bielsa is likely to have a lot of decisions to make on the existing squad after an underwhelming season and one of the most obvious players that he should be looking to cash in on is the German shot-stopper.

Paul Heckingbottom completely axed Wiedwald from his matchday squad for the last couple of months of the season, putting faith in youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

His performances proved that Wiedwald was well below the required level needed at Elland Road and that he should be off this summer – regardless of the price.

Likely to happen?

It’s quite surprising that top-flight clubs would be interested in Wiedwald and if he is available on the cheap, then it’s likely that they will want to pursue their interest in him.

Frankfurt may just want him as a back-up option, which would make more sense given how poorly he has played in England.

Bielsa will be hoping that he can attract more attention though between now and the end of the summer.
