A section of Tottenham fans have been in meltdown on Twitter after it was reported that the club has contacted Real Madrid about a potential swoop for playmaker Mateo Kovacic.
Spanish news outlet AS has reported that Spurs, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma have all been in contact with Madrid with it being understood that the Croatia international wants to quit the Bernabeu this summer.
The report adds that Kovacic is eager to sit down and discuss the length of his current contract and his shock £264million release clause in order to try and get his move away from the Spanish capital.
Spurs look as though they want to capitalise on his decision to leave Real Madrid, and some of their fans have been drooling over the prospect of signing him on Twitter.

Kovacic is the perfect replacement for Dembele. Stated he wants more game time, and hoping Modric can advise him to join Tottenham. Strong, good on the ball and gets his foot in. Suits the Premier League. #COYS pic.twitter.com/VFRBtpD4PY

OPINION
Tottenham fans have every right to be excited about the potential signing of Kovacic, but it will definitely be hard for them to get their hands on the deep-lying playmaker. According to AS, there are some real big-hitters interested in him – especially Man United and Juventus – who could blow Spurs out of the water with their financial prowess. Although Spurs could probably spend more than Juventus and the other Serie A clubs, chairman Daniel Levy may not want to given his hardball approach to the transfer market. Kovacic would be a top addition though for Tottenham and one fan was right in saying he would be a perfect replacement for Moussa Sissoko as he is miles better.
