It has been confirmed that Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson this summer.

Sanson’s agent Michael Manuello has made it very clear that Spurs are eyeing up a swoop for the 23-year-old Frenchman this season, who was in impressive form at the Stade Velodrome last season.

The former Montpellier midfielder scored an impressive 12 goals and supplied three assists in 53 appearances across all competitions for the French giants as they finished fourth in Ligue 1 and reached the Europa League final.

Spurs are now looking to sign Sanson, and Mauricio Pochettino will also be delighted to see that London rivals Chelsea have backed out of the race for him.

“Chelsea will not advance more than that. They will go on other things,” said Manuello, as quoted by French news outlet Foot Mercato.

He added: “Tottenham really follows Morgan. Really. Arsenal follows him too. Now, I do not know what Unai Emery will want.”

Good move for Tottenham?

Sanson would be a good addition for Spurs this summer if someone like Mousa Dembele was to leave as the Belgian midfielder is about to enter the final year of his contract.

The 23-year-old Marseille ace was in great form last season and played a major role in his side reaching the Europa League final while also maintaining decent form in Ligue 1.

The former France youth international can score goals, supply assists and is versatile enough to play on both wings as well as his favoured central midfield role.

If he can, Pochettino should definitely look to snap him up this summer.

Likely to happen?

Sanson is attracting a lot of attention, and at the moment, it looks like it could be a shoot-out between Tottenham and Arsenal for his signature.

Chelsea backing out of the race is good news, and the fact that Spurs have Champions League football next season and Arsenal don’t, should put them in pole position.

Sanson’s agent made a point that Tottenham are ‘really’ following Sanson, so there could be legs to this deal.
