Leeds United have secured that their first departure of the summer in the shape of Madger Gomes as he heads to French club Sochaux, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account today that the 21-year-old is exiting Elland Road for Ligue 2 side Sochaux, having struggled to make an impact in the first team for the Whites.

Gomes has made no appearances for the Championship outfit last season, with the out-of-favour central midfielder making only 2 appearances in the EFL Cup after being made surplus to requirements by exit-bound boss Paul Heckingbottom.

Good move for Leeds?

The fact that Gomes has not started a game all season for Leeds is evidence enough that the club are better off without him, and are better cashing in on him to boost their transfer funds.

His form has obviously been below-par and he can only rescue his playing career if he moves away from England and into a side where he is more likely to secure first team football.

The youngster has unfortunately not made his mark in the way he would have wanted, and with Championship being a long, competitive season, it may not have been the right environment to help him thrive and progress as a player.

Likely to happen?

With the player surplus to requirements at Elland Road, then the only way is the exit for the young Spaniard.

Leeds have confirmed his departure which means he will be saying his goodbyes imminently, but his services – of lack of them – will not be missed by the Leeds faithful, who have hardly caught a glimpse of him this season.

The move is great news for the Whites, who will bring in more experienced and talented players onto the books much to the delight of the fans.
