Leeds United are on the verge of agreeing personal terms with centre-forward Abel Hernandez, according to Leeds-Live.

The news outlet claimed on their website that Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani headed talks with the Uruguay international, who has recently confirmed that he has left Hull City at the end of his contract.

It is understood that the prolific forward, who scored eight goals in 10 appearances for Hull this season, has had his head turned by financial incentives with Wolves and Aston Villa also said to have been interested in signing him up.

Good move for Leeds?

It’s no doubt going to be an expensive one that may see Radrizzani break the wage-cap at Elland Road, but that is certainly a risk worth taking with Hernandez.

He spent a lot of the season sidelined with an Achilles injury, but if he can stay fit, he is certainly the man to hit over 20 goals in a season and help fire United back into promotion contention.

Victor Orta has not been able to replace the void left by Chris Wood when he joined Burnley last summer, and with the director of football reportedly in South American to talk with Marcelo Bielsa, it appears that Radrizzani has got himself in on the transfer action to convince Hernandez to reject the Premier League to join the Whites.

It’s a top piece of business by Leeds if they manage to pull it off.

Likely to happen?

Radrizzani has links to super-agent Mina Raoila, and while he is not Hernandez’s representative, he is said to be close to those who are.

That may put Leeds in pole position, and given Villa’s lack of financial clout and that there’s no first team football guaranteed at Wolves, it’s hard to see why the Uruguayan would choose the West Midlands over West Yorkshire.
