Leeds United are in the hunt to sign Liverpool enforcer Pedro Chirivella, according to Goal.

The news outlet claims that there are many other Championship clubs who are looking to sign Chirivella, 21, this summer, however Leeds are the only ones named in the race for his signature.

The Spanish enforcer spent last season out on loan at Eredivisie outfit Willem II and he is now due to return to the Champions League runners-up, where he has another two years remaining on his deal.

Good move for Leeds?

Chirivella is a decent young defensive midfielder, who has shown the versatility to play in a more attacking position in the midfield, or even out wide.

Do Leeds need him this summer? They need players like the Spain youth international, but not necessarily him.

Chirivella’s career has not really kicked on and his loan spell at Willem II wasn’t exactly promising given the major lack of quality in the Dutch top-flight outside of the big clubs.

He has only ever made five senior appearances for Liverpool and the chances are that he would be a bit of a risk to sign this summer.

There are surely better defensive midfield options out there for Victor Orta to eye up.

Likely to happen?

There’s a good chance that Chirivella will be loaned out this summer and Leeds always seem to be linked with snapping up young Liverpool players on a temporary basis – but then never actually get them.

The Whites may well be interested but the Reds never seem to send out their players to Elland Road.

There are other Championship clubs said to be looking at the Spanish enforcer, so it doesn’t seem likely that he will head to West Yorkshire this summer.
