West Ham have confirmed that 22-year-old midfielder Moses Makasi has signed a new short term deal with the club, as revealed via theĀ official club website.

The Hammers revealed that the 5″9′ (source: Transfermarkt) central maestro has penned a new one-year contract at the East London club, following Makasi’s spell with the club’s under-23 side in Premier League 2 in the first half of the season, and his loan to League One outfit Plymouth Argyle in the second half of the campaign.

Up until January, the 22-year-old excelled for the Under 23’s side under boss Terry Westley before going on loan to the Pilgrims, of whom he helped push for the play-offs in League One.

However, injury stopped him in his tracks in April, but that has not stopped him in doing enough to earn a new contract at the London Stadium.

OPINION

Makasi certainly has had an eventful season during the last campaign, but his efforts have been deservedly rewarded following West Ham’s offer of a one year deal. With Plymouth sitting in the relegation zone of League One at Christmas, his loan spell helped them make an attempt to narrowly make the play-offs. Unfortunately for the club, the Pilgrims’ play-off hopes were not meant to be, as Neil Adams’ side just missed out on a top six finish on the final day. However, such an experience has helped the youngster, giving him that game time in a competitive environment. He now has the tools to push for a place in the first team, as the club aim to push higher in the table next season. Despite some of the world’s best competing in the Premier League, the young midfielder is capable of competing against him should he make the starting 11 regularly next season.
