Marcelo Bielsa is not the only name being considered by Leeds United to succeed Paul Heckingbottom in the Elland Road hotseat, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims that the Whites are not putting all their eggs in one basket with the unpredictable former Lille and Marseille manager, and are also keeping close tabs on two other managers that they could potentially hire.

In the event that talks with Bielsa fails, Leeds fans should be praying that one of those managers that is being eyed up as an alternative is Mick McCarthy.

The 59-year-old left Ipswich after six years last season and is about as opposite to Bielsa that Leeds can get – and that is exactly why they should try to get him.

McCarthy is loyal, having never spent less than three years in any of his management jobs, has experience in the Championship and is rumoured to be a Leeds supporter.

The Barnsley-born boss may not be the most exciting manager in terms of the football that he looks to play but he did a good job at Ipswich with a very limited budget, and with the right financial backing he would be a success.

It’s not to say that Bielsa won’t be.

The fact that Leeds want to look at an unpredictable South American boss like him should be applauded if anything as the Yorkshire giants look to try something new.

But McCarthy is just a better bet at the moment and given his availability, surely he will be on Andrea Radrizzani’s radar right now.
