Leeds United are more likely to bring in Abel Hernandez over Matej Vydra this summer but Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival could cause a twist in their double striker hunt, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that considering that the Whites have committed more time into snapping up the 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) Hull City forward, his arrival at Elland Road is the likelier of the two, after his publication claimed that talks were still ongoing.

However, with the manager’s seat currently vacant, and former Lille boss Bielsa eyed as a potential replacement, it is stated that the Argentine is a big fan of Derby hitman Vydra, which could well cause a twist in the tale, with Derby reportedly open to selling their striker.

Opinion

Leeds might have brought in a whole host of new strikers last summer, with no less than three recognised centre forwards through the door, but not one managed to come anywhere close to replicating the sort of form shown by Chris Wood two seasons ago. The Whites desperately need a proven hitman to bang in the goals which should fire them up the Championship table, and both Vydra and Hernandez have the experience under their belt to be great successes at Elland Road. Who comes in could all depend on which manager the club choose to appoint, with different coaches wanting different things from their men up front. Hernandez is a bit more of a target man with his physical stature, while Vydra is likely to offer a more pacy option up top. Either way, both are proven in the second tier and that is exactly where things fell apart for Leeds last summer. At least Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta have learned the errors of their ways.
