Rangers are targeting a loan move for Roma striker Umar Sadiq after the Serie A hitman spent the second half of the season with Dutch side NAC Breda, according to The Scottish Sun.

The media outlet has revealed that Steven Gerrard is looking at improving his forward line which is somewhat diminished after Kenny Miller’s exit from the club, although Breda are said to have the option to take him on loan again on the table.

Sadiq, who stands at a colossal 6ft 4in (Source: Transfermarkt) has a contract in Rome until 2022 but it was his form in the Eredivisie last season which caught the attention of the Light Blues manager after he scored five goals (one against PSV Eindhoven), and three assists in a total of 12 outings.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes. Sadiq is a young striker who has already shown he is capable of scoring at the highest level.

The forward’s domineering frame will stand him in good stead against some of the more physical defences in the Scottish Premiership and make him a real problem to deal with.

In 2016, Sadiq was selected for the Nigerian national team’s Olympic team where he scored four goals in six games, registering against Sweden, Honduras, and Japan.

Likely to happen?

Breda have an option to extend the Nigerian’s contract on loan by a further year so the Dutch side will likely have the first say over any switch but unless they exercise their right then we can see the Light Blues stealing in on the attacker.

The Gers are desperate to boost their forward line which is looking drastically short of options so it makes sense that Gerrard is on the lookout for a striker.
