Liverpool have beaten Tottenham to the signing of exciting teenager Bobby Duncan, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims via their website that the 17-year-old centre-forward, who is the cousin of Anfield legend Steven Gerrard, will unsurprisingly sign for the Champions League runners-up after a £200,000 compensation fee was agreed to snap him up from Manchester City.

It is understood that Duncan is a lifelong Liverpool supporter, so it is no shock that he decided to snub interest from Spurs, Juventus, Monaco and Roma in order to join the club he loves, where he will report to pre-season training on July 2.

OPINION

Duncan has shown great promise in the early stages of his career. The England youth international is the only ever Englishman to score a hat-trick against Brazil having netted three times against them for the Under-16s side in 2016. He also scored a stunning 66 goals for Man City’s youth teams in the 2015/16 season. If he is able to continue his development then he is bound to be a Premier League player in the future, and maybe even a fully fledged England international. Liverpool is definitely the place for him to flourish, even though his cousin Gerrard is no longer a youth coach there having been appointed in charge of Rangers. It’s certainly a blow for Tottenham to have missed out on him, but no matter what they offered him, he would have likely headed to Liverpool regardless. Interest in youth English players from abroad is certainly becoming more prominent these days, so that is definitely something to keep an eye on over the coming years.
