Leeds United are on the verge of making Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker their first signing of the summer transfer window after he underwent a medical with the Championship club, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Friday [07:55pm] that Baker, 23, is poised to join Leeds on a permanent deal having only ever made one appearance for the Stamford Bridge club.

The former England Under-21 international spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he only made six starts in the Championship.

Good move for Leeds?

Although Baker only made a handful of starts last season while on loan at Middlesbrough, he is bound to be a good signing for Leeds.

Tony Pulis is not exactly the best judge of character for loan players. For instance at West Brom he had Serge Gnabry and Alex Pritchard on loan and never played them. One now plays for Bayern Munich and has caps for Germany while the other was signed for £12million this year.

Baker has a lot of experience of the Championship and from teams across Europe and he just needs somewhere to play permanently to get his head down and really kick on with his career.

He will definitely do that at Leeds and fans should be excited about his arrival.

Likely to happen?

It seems as though this deal has moved very fast and Baker will end up being a Leeds United player very soon.

After completing his medical, he may just have to finally put pen to paper to complete his move, and it’s hard to see anything going wrong there.
