Leeds United are continuing talks with Marcel Bielsa about filling the managerial vacancy at Elland Road, however they are not yet at the stage where the Argentine can sign a contract, according to BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday night that another name mentioned in the running to replace Paul Heckingbottom in the West Yorkshire hotseat if Venezia manager Filippo Inzaghi.

However it is understood that Inzaghi is “destined” for Bologna at the end of the season in Italy after taking Venezia to the Serie B play-offs.

OPINION

Leeds seem set on wrapping up their hunt for a new manager as quick as possible, and that is no surprise considering their Championship season ended weeks ago and Heckingbottom should really have been axed much earlier. Bielsa is a very good coach and while he has an unpredictable personality that could cause yet more drama at Elland Road, he could be the man who finally takes United back to the Premier Legaue if he is backed by Andrea Radrizzani and is given time. It seems as though he was never the only man on Leeds’ radar though with Inzaghi also mentioned by the BBC Radio Leeds broadcaster. The Italian helped Venezia to promotion to Serie B last season, and still has a chance of achieving back-to-back promotions if he can win the play-offs this month. Bologna look as though they will be snapping him up though, forcing Leeds out of the reckoning as they appear to have now gone all in on Bielsa.
