Leeds United will attempt to offload five players that were signed up last summer, however they are currently failing to attract much attention from elsewhere, according to Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning that Felix Wiedwald, Andy Lonergan, Hadi Sacko, Vurnon Anita and Pawel Cibicki are all listed for sale with a summer exodus on the cards, a year after they all arrived at Elland Road on a permanent basis.

Leeds’ recruitment policy last summer has been widely criticised by fans and pundits, who believe that director of football Victor Orta decided to invest more in quantity over quality.

And now it seems that the club has admitted that a bunch of his signings have proved to be failures with them now up for sale, including Cibicki, who arrived at Elland Road in 2017 for £1.45million.

OPINION

Leeds fans will not be upset to see any of these five players leave Elland Road this summer. It will surely be hard for them to gain interest after such poor seasons in West Yorkshire, but there will no doubt be some clubs who grow desperate as the season goes on. Wiedwald has been a major flop in England and a move back to Germany could be on the cards for him. Lonergan and Anita are experienced in this country and could move elsewhere in the Championship to give someone some strength in depth. Anita’s poor spell at Elland Road has been a big surprise after a decent spell at Newcastle. Sacko and Cibicki are two players who have not really been given much of a chance, but when they have played, they have been very short of the required standard. It will be a shame to see Cibicki leave more than anyone as he did show some promise with his brilliant set-pieces.
