Rangers are set to send midfield revelation Jamie Barjonas out on loan to Championship side Partick Thistle this summer, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper states that the Light Blues are willing to sanction the temporary exit of the 19-year-old after he broke into the first team at Ibrox, and that his destination has been set as The Jags.

The youngster, who made his debut for the club back in May 2017 and has a contract until 2020, turned out a total of five times for the first team last season, chipping in with just one assist, and has a total of nine senior appearances under his belt.

Opinion

Barjonas was one of a couple of youngsters who have come through the youth system in recent years at Ibrox, and certainly looks to be a bright talent for the future. However, Steven Gerrard’s focus is on the here and now and with so many other options at his disposal in the middle of the park, Barjonas’ chance of making an impact are limited. It is much better for him to head out on loan to pick up some valuable experience before returning to the club and trying to impose himself on the first team. The only question that must be asked is if a move to a Championship side is really the best option available, for Premiership experience would stand him in much greater stead. Still, if the move to Partick Thistle does not work out as expected, it is likely the Gers will recall him in January and either send him elsewhere, or give him a chance in the first team.
