Aston Villa are in pole position over of some of their Championship rivals to sign defender Samuel Yohou from Paris FC this summer, according to Sporting Life.

The sports website reports that three Championship sides have expressed an interest in signing the 6ft 2in (source: Transfermarkt) colossus from France, who is available on a free transfer after his contract expires at the end of this month.

Villa boss Steve Bruce is looking to bolster his attacking options following the departures of John Terry and Chris Samba not signing a new contract. The former Ivory Coast international has impressed for the French second tier side, which has alerted the trio of Championship clubs.

Good move for Aston Villa?

With Aston Villa having financial problems, they are still being active in the transfer market this summer, and target Yohou seems the most perfect yet viable option for Bruce at the moment.

Being available on a free transfer is great news for the club, who are looking to rebuild following their Championship Play-Off defeat to Fulham.

Bruce is already facing the prospect of losing at least two experienced defenders and the addition of Yohou may be just what the team needs.

Likely to happen?

With Aston Villa leading the Championship pack in the battle for Yohou’s signature, then a move will be likely to happen soon, especially as his services are free.

Aston Villa are vying for promotion next season and this will be a very attractive prospect to the 26-year-old, who may be swayed by the possible chance of playing in the Premier League.

Yohou should be arriving at Villa Park very soon if the club sustain their interest, which they most likely will.
