The agent of Rangers star striker Alfredo Morelos knows nothing about stunning transfer claims linking him with Turkish giants Fenerbahce this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper’s report claims that after Turkish outlet Yeni Akit reported a sensational swap swoop involving Morelos and former Liverpool star Martin Skrtel, the behind-the-scenes verdict from the striker’s representatives is that they know nothing of the move.

The original report stated that Fenerbahce would have been willing to pay a fee as well as swapping the two players, but that new boss Steven Gerrard is desperate to keep the Colombian at Ibrox for his first season in charge next season.

Opinion

Just because Morelos’ team has not heard about Fenerbahce’s interest does not mean it does not exist, but it did seem to be something of an ambitious swoop from the Turkish side. Morelos might have had a hit-and-miss campaign but when he was in his stride he was unstoppable, and considering he is so young his potential is immense. Skrtel’s career meanwhile is on the wane, and it would have been a strange swap to go ahead. Still, Rangers need some experience running through their side, and Gerrard has kicked that off with the captures of Allen McGregor and Scott Arfield, and with Skrtel having been linked with a move to Ibrox earlier in the summer, there could be something in a potential swap – just not for Morelos. It looks to be another summer of change with the Light Blues and fans will be hoping that it goes better than 12 months ago, when Pedro Caixinha’s experiment flopped spectacularly.
